Holy Week

This Sunday (4/17) begins our Holy Week march to Easter Sunday. Palm or Passion Sunday worship begins outside (weather permitting) on the front lawn with the blessing of the palms and the reading of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem in Matthew 21:1-11. We will then sing the processional hymn as we go inside the church to worship, waving our palm branches in the air as we go just as those who greeted Jesus on that day. This worship service has the reading of the passion narrative from the Gospel of Matthew.

Holy Week will also have many other worship services. Maundy Thursday service (6:30pm 4/21) will include Holy Communion and will conclude with the stripping of the altar. Good Friday service (6:30 4/22) will include several scripture readings of the last hours of Jesus on the cross and prayers for the whole of the church.

This year we will have a Saturday prayer vigil at 6:30pm on 4/23. This will be a contemplative time of prayer and meditation with scripture and hymns.

Easter Sunday worship will be at 11:00am on 4/24. This year, in celebration of and thanksgiving for the Resurrection of our Lord, we will present an Easter cantata entitled: What Wondrous Love. This is an original compostion by members of Shepherd of the Hills which includes the scriptural account of the resurrection and beautiful music to illustrate these texts.

Before the Easter worship service we will have a congregational breakfast at 9:30am. Please come join us!

There is a community Easter Sunrise service in the cemetary of Cullowhee Baptist Church on the campus of WCU at 7:00am

If you have any questions, please call the church office at 828-586-2084
