We begin the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service this Wednesday, February 22 at 6:30pm. We will have the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion at this service.
Also, come early for soup supper at 5:30! Bring a soup to share if you wish.
Ash Wednesday is the traditional observance of the beginning of Lent. We follow the tradition of using ash, made from the burning of the previous year’s palm fronds from Palm Sunday, to make a small cross on the forehead of all who wish to participate. This way of observing the beginning of Lent came from the tradition of putting ashes on the head as a sign of mourning or repentance. Lent does not have to be a season of mourning, but it is a period of time when we look at ways we can turn our lives around in order to live more fully in God’s love and grace. We also take time to see the many ways in which we are dependent upon God’s mercy.
Throughout Lent, which extends through and includes the last week in March, we will gather each Wednesday night at 5:30 for soup supper and worship with Holden Evening Prayer at 6:30. All are welcome to attend!
