Every Week is Holy Week
God called to Moses out of the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ Then God said, ‘Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’ –Exodus 3:4-5
We have reached the time of the year that the church calls Holy Week. Of course, this is not the only holy week of the year! Holy time and holy ground are everywhere.
The church year is a story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and the growth of the church. This week is when we tell the intense part of the story when Jesus is crucified, sealed in the tomb, and finally resurrected from the dead.
It is easy for us to think of this week, and especially Easter Sunday itself, as a single period of time during the year to celebrate these events. And yet, Jesus’ resurrection is for the redemption of us and for all creation not just once but for all. In this way, every Sunday, perhaps even every day, is Resurrection Day!
Next week, keep celebrating holy week…the holiness of every week… and seeing all of our lives, all of God’s creation, as holy ground!
