The power of vulnerability comes through every Sunday where we talk about the ways we see God in each other and in the world. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on loving ourselves as divine creations of God. The talks we’ve been having have required us to be honest about the ways we don’t love ourselves. We looked at Psalm 139 on 9/11/16 to see what God has to say about why we are loved by God.

God in the World – Loving Yourself in the Name of God

We are all eager to talk about the fact that “God is love” when we speak to others. What about when you look in the mirror. Are you willing to tell that person in the mirror that God loves you? In the coming weeks, we will be adding “yourself” into the love equation. We’ve talked about what it means to love God and our neighbor, now we’re going to add you and me to that mix.

Using Frederick Beuchner’s understanding of love as “working for the well-being of another”, we will be talking about the following questions:

  1. What does it mean to work for your own well-being as a way of loving self?
  2. Why will/do we want to love self? Can one truly love another if you do not love yourself?
